Arp Omni 2 Synthesizer
Posted: January 23, 2014 Filed under: BUILD Leave a commentThe Arp Omni 2 is a synthesizer manufactured in Japan in the late 1970s. My dad had one in storage, and I got it out thinking I could use it to record some tunes. But when we plugged it in, we found that it was fried. I would have to fix it, or I would have to live without those crispy synth tones.
Learning opportunity.
There is a common problem with old Arps. The power source sends transient voltage spikes each time the machine is powered on and off. Over time, those surges fry the capacitors in the synth, as well as the power supply itself.
Here is the modification from the manufacturer from awesome synth repair resource Mark Smart
